Responsibilities

 

Instructional Program and Curriculum Development

  1. Confers with counselors, administrators, parents, staff, and students for the purpose of ascertaining program interests and needs.
  2. Provides leadership in improving instruction through such arrangements as:
  1. Classroom visitations, observations and conferences with teachers.
  2. In-service training meetings and the use of other in-service procedures.
  3. Encouraging continued professional growth of teachers.
  1. Confers with administrators, teachers and department lead teachers and other personnel in the planning and development of curriculum and the articulation and integration of the instructional program.
  2. Maintains personnel and professional development by reading professional literature, attending professional association meetings, visiting outstanding schools, participating in workshops.
  3. Works with administrators and teachers in coordinating the work of the various departments of instruction.
  4. Plans for the arrangement and organization of school examination schedules and the supervision of the administration of such examinations.
  5. Confers with teachers, students and parents on curriculum and instructional matters.
  6. Confers with Central Office Personnel on curriculum and programs of instruction.
  7. Confers with representatives of the student body on appropriate school related issues
  8. Provides for an atmosphere of efficiency, cooperation, stimulation, recognition and service in which the school program can operate most effectively.
  9. Works with the staff in establishing goals, objectives, and curriculum that are consistent with the State Law, the Commissioner's Regulations, Board of Education Policies, and Administrative Regulations.
  10. Provides the school with personnel, materials and other resources that are necessary to fulfill the goals and purposes of the school, its instructional program, and related activities.

 

Building Organization and Management

  1. An individual who is optimistic, who sees events positively and anticipates the best possible outcome.
  2. Able to encourage and sustain others’ efforts as they work toward goals.
  3. Collaborates with and supervise department lead teachers and work with them in the fulfillment of their duties and responsibilities.
  4. Provides for an organization of procedures for constructing the Master Schedule of classes, scheduling of pupils, and the assignment of teachers.
  5. Arranges for a coordination of a schedule for extracurricular activities, social functions and all other uses of the building and have a school calendar maintained of these activities.
  6. Arranges for a plan and organization of pupil attendance and accounting policies and procedures in keeping with the school's responsibility and Board of Education policy.
  7. Implements the policies and administrative procedures of the Board of Education and Central Office Administration.
  8. Plans and establishes with counseling personnel procedures for the purpose of maintaining and accounting of student permanent records and progress reports.
  9. Plans for a systematic review and assessment of the building and grounds to provide for proper conditions for cleanliness, repairs and alterations as needed.
  10. Assists in the development of background information for the Board of Education's negotiating package.
  11. Provides plans for a system of closing out the school year.

 

Personnel

  1. Recruits, selects and recommends for employment, teaching and non-teaching personnel needed to operate the school effectively.
  2. Evaluates, and recommends teachers for the purposes of continued employment, tenure appointment or dismissal.
  3. Assigns teachers and other staff members to positions, classes and other duties which are most suitable and advantageous to the overall efficiency of the school program.

 

Business and Budget Management

  1. Determines basic fund allotments for each department for such budget categories as instructional personnel, instructional equipment, supplies, equipment repairs, textbooks, and other materials and resources.
  2. Collaborates with staff members and department lead teachers to determine budget needs.
  3. Assembles budget requests and coordinates these and other building needs.
  4. Actively involves department lead teachers and building administrators in budget preparation.
  5. Recommends and authorizes staff member conferences and travel expenditures to be paid from budget funds.
  6. Develops a school budget within the funds allotted by the School System.
  7. Administers the school budget, providing a control of the accounting for supplies, equipment and other materials.
  8. Provides for the completion of State required forms and reports.
  9. Approves and signs payroll records of substitute teachers, aides, and clerical personnel.
  10. Supervises the recording of attendance records of all teachers and other matters related to the personnel files.

 

Student Behavior and Building Control

  1. Ensures that standards of discipline and procedures are developed and implemented.
  2. Provides for the arrangement of an organized system of recording student conduct and student attendance.
  3. Recommends to the Superintendent of Schools an extension of a temporary student suspension and/or a permanent removal from school when warranted by a student's conduct.
  4. Prepares reports for the Superintendent.

 

 

Community Relations

  1. Develops a program of scholarships and awards for students in cooperation with community organizations and interested individuals.
  2. Collaborates with leaders and members of community groups.
  3. Communicates with parents and the community in general acquainted with the school's program, its policies and activities, including new developments and changes through letters and newspaper releases.
  4. Arranges for parent meetings to provide information about the school and its programs, college admissions, programs of financial aid for college students, orientation for parents of incoming ninth grade students, and other matters of interest to parents.

 

Student Services and Activities

  1. Works with teachers and counselors to study needs of students and to develop programs and procedures to meet them.
  2. Reviews with counseling personnel all serious cases of doubtful graduation.
  3. Collaborate with student representatives in the development of activities and programs.

Performance of the job will be evaluated by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction in accordance with Board of Education policy.

  6. Utilizes available resources to enhance student learning experiences.
  7. Provides opportunities when appropriate for students to identify and study major problems facing society today.
  8. Provides experiences for students to identify and develop responsible citizenship roles in a democratic society.
  9. Maintains open lines of communication with students and parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of assigned students.
  10. Works toward the establishment of good teacher-pupil relationships.
  11. Develop appropriate rules and procedures for student behavior and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and consistent manner.
  12. Provides supervision of students both in and outside of the classroom in accordance with school regulations.
  13. Assists in implementing school-wide policies and rules governing teacher and student responsibilities.
  14. Establishes a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and to the development of a positive self-concept.
  15. Identifies and provides broad and varied reading experiences for students that relate to the course of study.

  26. Serves on established committees on a voluntary basis.
  27. Supervises non-instructional personnel with the mutual consent of the Building Principal and teacher.
  28. Works with Special Education Resource Room teacher(s) on an ongoing basis to provide necessary assistance to mainstreamed Special Education students.
  29. Works closely with other content area teachers to provide meaningful instruction and assignments in interdisciplinary courses, where applicable.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

-Provide individual and group instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher.
-Assist classroom teacher in the implementation of Individualized Education Plans/504 Plans, if applicable.
-Adapt and implement classroom lessons and activities under the supervision of the teacher.
-Work cooperatively with staff, administration, and consultants to meet all students’ needs.
-Communicate effectively with the team including classroom teachers, other professional staff and parents.
-Collect data and provide input to the behavioral specialist and classroom team.
-Plan and implement daily activities under the supervision of the teacher.
-Assist with maintaining record-keeping.
-Attend staffing meetings and training before and after school as needed.
