  • Works with individual students or groups of students on special non-instructional projects.
  • Assists students in the use of available instructional resources and assists in the development of instructional materials.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings for the development of programs to better meet individual needs.
  • Assists in adaptive daily living and self-help skills (e.g., changing diapers, toilet training, tying shoes).
  • Reinforces skills taught by a speech therapist, job coach, occupational therapist/physical therapist/classroom teacher after receiving the appropriate training.
  • Provides clerical assistance (e.g., filing, typing, copy classroom material, enter material in computer and relay or respond to telephone messages).
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Removes the students from situations as directed by the teacher.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher and/or building administrator.

  1. Empties waste baskets, pencil sharpeners, etc. and disposes of rubbish. 

 

  1. Cleans and washes lavatory fixtures, mirrors, chalk boards and chalk trays. 

 

  1. Replaces light bulbs, dispensers, etc. Fills dispensers with soap, disposable paper products, etc. 

 

  1. Vacuums and cleans carpets and furniture; straightens office, classroom and cafeteria furniture. 

 

  1. Secures and locks windows and doors. 

 

  1. Turns off lights and small appliances. 

 

  1. Provides continuous awareness of all safety precautions, procedures, etc. and reports problems/deficiencies. 

 

  1. Gives assistance as necessary to educational personnel.

Responsibilities

  1. Implements the State/District curriculum standards. 
  2. Develops an appropriate orientation program that will present the students with a general overview of the course objectives, procedures, content and evaluation techniques. 
  3. Preplans activities at least one (1) week in advance for each class in regard to materials and use of time according to the goals and objectives of the program. 
  4. Utilizes available resources to enhance student learning experiences. 
  5. Provides opportunities when appropriate for students to identify and study major problems facing society today. 
  6. Provides experiences for students to identify and develop responsible citizenship roles in a democratic society. 
  7. Maintains open lines of communication with students and parents concerning academic and behavioral progress of assigned students. 
  8. Works toward the establishment of good teacher-pupil relationships. 
  9. Develops appropriate rules and procedures for student behavior and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and consistent manner.

Position Summary:

 

The Academic and Behavior Support Coordinator/Coach plays a key role in ensuring all students receive the instruction and support they need to succeed academically, socially, and behaviorally. This position supports teachers and staff in implementing a coordinated, data-driven system of tiered supports within a multi-tiered system.

Primary Responsibilities

Student Support Coordination

  • Monitor academic and behavior data to identify students in need of additional support.
  • Coordinate Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions for students not making adequate progress in the core curriculum.
  • Collaborate with the administrators, instructional coaches, interventionists, counselors, and classroom teachers to develop and adjust support plans.
     

Academic Support

  • Help facilitate the delivery of small-group and individualized academic interventions.
  • Assist teachers with differentiation strategies and intervention planning based on data.
  • Organize and track progress monitoring tools (e.g., i-Ready).
     

Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support

  • Support implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports at the Tier 1 level.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop and monitor behavior intervention plans for Tier 2 and Tier 3 students.
  • Support implementation of SEL programs (e.g., Second Step, Zones of Regulation) and restorative practices.
     

Team Facilitation & Communication

  • Lead tiered meetings focused on problem-solving and progress monitoring.
  • Communicate clearly and positively with families about the intervention process, student data, and next steps.
  • Collaborate regularly with administrators and the school psychologist to align services and supports.
     

Professional Development & Coaching

  • Provide training and support for staff on intervention best practices, data analysis, and behavior supports.
  • Help build schoolwide capacity for using data to drive instructional and behavioral decisions.
