Responsibilities
• An individual who is optimistic, who sees events positively and anticipates the best possible outcome.
• Able to encourage and sustain others’ efforts as they work toward goals.
• Monitors the classroom when the teacher is attending meetings or when the teacher is taken from the classroom to correct a situation that may arise with a student.
• Works with individual students or groups of students on special non-instructional projects.
• Assists students in the use of available instructional resources, and assists in the development of instructional materials.
• Attends and participates in team meetings for the development of programs to better meet individual needs.
• Assists in adaptive daily living and self-help skills (e.g., changing diapers, toilet training, tying shoes).
• Reinforces skills taught by speech therapist, job coach, occupational therapist/physical therapist/classroom teacher after receiving the appropriate training.
• Provides clerical assistance (e.g., filing, typing, copy classroom material, enter material in computer and relay or respond to telephone messages).
• Maintains strict confidentiality.
• Removes the students from situations as directed by the teacher.
• Performs any other duties as assigned by classroom teacher and/or building administrator.

A Teacher Aide is appointed by the Board of Education to provide educational assistance under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher.

Evaluation performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the assigned teacher and/or Building Principal in accordance with Board of Education policy.

Terms of Employment

Ten (10) months per year on school days according to the terms established by the Agreement between the Superintendent and the Support Staff Association.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

-Provide individual and group instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher.
-Assist classroom teacher in the implementation of Individualized Education Plans/504 Plans, if applicable.
-Adapt and implement classroom lessons and activities under the supervision of the teacher.
-Work cooperatively with staff, administration, and consultants to meet all students’ needs.
-Communicate effectively with the team including classroom teachers, other professional staff and parents.
-Collect data and provide input to the behavioral specialist and classroom team.
-Plan and implement daily activities under the supervision of the teacher.
-Assist with maintaining record-keeping.
-Attend staffing meetings and training before and after school as needed.
-Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the classroom teacher or building administrator as deemed necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

  • Assist the classroom teacher by performing non-instructional duties to support students with disabilities individually, in small groups.
  • Assist with general supervision of students in a multitude of settings including, but not limited to, classroom, hallways, lunchroom, and playground
  • Assist in self-help, personal care activities, and mobility for students with disabilities.
  • Perform other duties related to specific programs.
  • Attend meetings as necessary
