| Pre-Season 1) Works with the Director in setting up the competitive schedule, especially non-League contests. 2) Meets with the Director at least two (2) months prior to the start of the season to determine equipment and supplies that will be needed for the coming season. 3) Meets with prospective players before the start of the season to establish time schedules, i.e., starting date, practice times, etc. Have all players fill out student information cards and issue Parental Permission Forms to be signed and returned before the first practice session. The "Athletic Training Rules" and other rules and regulations will be discussed, and copies sent home to the parents. 4) Checks and repairs all equipment and supplies as needed. Check new and reconditioned equipment. Move all supplies and equipment to In-Season storage areas. 5) Meets with assistant coaches to establish techniques for skills, team strategy, etc. that will be used in the coming season. Review all District policies on medical treatment and insurance coverage. 6) Attends School, League, and/or Sectional pre-season meetings. 7) Attends officials’ rules interpretation meetings. In-Season 1) Checks with school nurse to see that all candidates have had their school approved physical examination. No student will be allowed to practice until they have an approved examination. 2) Works with the Athletic Director and other varsity coaches in arranging for the use of the facilities for practices, scrimmages and games. This eliminates conflicts with other scheduled activities. 3) Submits "Request for Transportation" forms to the Director who in turn will approve or disapprove. Approved requests will be forwarded to the Director of Transportation. The coach will check with the athletic department secretary on the day of the game to determine whether there will be any problems on arrival time, etc. 4) Issues all equipment and supplies to team members. Records of all items issued shall be kept by the coach. 5) Practice Sessions: The usual practice session should not exceed three (3) hours in length. Due to the nature of the activity some sessions will have to be conducted on days school is not in session. 6) Compiles a team roster for the season. Submit the same to the Director before the first League contest. Forms are available in the Director's office. 7) Length of Season: This is determined by the League, Section Athletic Council and the State Athletic Association. 8) The head coach is usually responsible for game statistics, etc. The practice of having competent students act as "Stat Personnel" is to be encouraged. 9) The head coach is usually responsible for all press releases in regards to schedules, team members, team records, etc. In the event something controversial is to be released, it must be first cleared with the Director of Athletes. 10) Coaches will consult the "Coaches Handbook" issued by the Director. All coaches will be thoroughly acquainted with the "Athletic Code" concerning discipline of athletes, violations, etc. 11) Head coach will be responsible for conducting "Staff Meetings" during the season. Scouting assignments will be established by the head coach at least three (3) days in advance of the assignment. 12) The coach shall prepare a practice schedule and present copies of the same to the Director and all team members. When changes are made, all parties should be notified at least twenty- four (24) hours in advance whenever feasible. 13) Supervises students at all times, in locker rooms, on the fields, courts and/or on buses. Post-Season 1) The head coach shall be responsible for seeing that all players return all school owned and issued equipment. This is best done on the day of the last contest. For individual exceptions it should be done no later than three (3) days after the final contest. 2) Head coach will inventory all supplies and equipment and submit such a list to the Director within one (1) week after the last contest. 3) Head coach will arrange for help when the reconditioner packs all uniforms, etc., to be cleaned and repaired. All supplies and equipment not being sent out of the building are to be stored in the proper designated storage areas. 4) The head coach shall submit the "Post Season Report" for his/her sport to the Director. All League reports must be submitted to the Sports Chairperson of the League. 5) The head coach will meet with the TVL coaches and help select the All-Star Teams. 6) The head coach will work closely with the Director, the Guidance Department and the Student Athlete at the conclusion of the season and during the Spring months in an attempt to secure college entrance for the students so inclined. 7) The coach is responsible for all phases of the activity including, but not restricted to, the aforementioned duties.
