Qualifications

  • Education - A college degree and New York State Education Department Teaching Certificate preferable. 
  • Minimum Requirement - Must qualify for teacher assistant license under the Rules of the Commissioner of Education. 
  • Experience - Working with children in some instructional capacity preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

 

Good knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of grade level(s) or instructional specialty(ies) to which assigned; good knowledge of child growth and development; good knowledge of school's program of studies related to assignments and public school mission, goals, and organization; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned; ability to utilize multimedia and computer technology as appropriate; ability to move about in room to monitor students and check work in classrooms with a variety of seating and desk organization; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; skill in oral and written communication; excellent human relations skills.

Responsibilities    (include but are not limited to):

  • An individual who is optimistic, who sees events positively and anticipates the best possible outcome.
  • Able to encourage and sustain others’ efforts as they work toward goals.

 

  1. Provides instructional services to individual or small groups of students under the direct general supervision of appropriate teacher and/or administrative personnel. 

 

  1. Assists in preparing and scoring of school-wide testing program. 

 

  1. Maintains appropriate records of students under the direction of appropriate teacher and/or administrative personnel. 

 

  1. Assists classroom teachers with choice of materials and instructional methods for those children who are in special programs. 

 

  1. Monitors core program. 

 

  1. Assists in in-service education as demonstration teacher or resource person. 

 

  1. Consults with parents whose children are involved in special programs under the direction of the classroom teacher. 

 

  1. Assists with evaluation and selection of instructional materials. 

 

  1. Assists students in the use of available instructional resources. 

 

  1. Utilizes own special skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs. 

 

  1. Supervises students when they are outside classroom and maintain order. 

 

  1. Performs miscellaneous clerical duties.

Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Performance of the job will be evaluated annually by the assigned administrator in accordance with Board of Education policy.
