Responsibilities | |
- An individual who is optimistic, who sees events positively and anticipates the best possible outcome.
- Able to encourage and sustain others’ efforts as they work toward goals.
- Monitors the classroom when the teacher attends meetings or is taken from the classroom to correct a situation that may arise with a student.
- Works with individual students or groups of students on special non-instructional projects.
- Assists students in the use of available instructional resources, and assists in the development of instructional materials.
- Attends and participates in team meetings for the development of programs to better meet individual needs.
- Assists in adaptive daily living and self-help skills (e.g., changing diapers, toilet training, tying shoes).
- Reinforces skills taught by a speech therapist, job coach, occupational therapist/physical therapist/classroom teacher after receiving the appropriate training.
- Provides clerical assistance (e.g., filing, typing, copy classroom material, enter material in computer and relay or respond to telephone messages).
- Maintains strict confidentiality.
- Removes the students from situations as directed by the teacher.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher and/or building administrator.

The Board of Education appoints a Teacher Aide to provide educational assistance under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher. |

Evaluation | The performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the assigned teacher and/or building principal in accordance with the policy of the Board of Education. |
Terms of Employment | Ten (10) months per year on school days according to the terms established by the agreement between the Superintendent and the Support Staff Association. |
