| The school social worker is a specialist who serves as a liaison between home, school, and community. Activity is directed toward those children whose academic, social, or behavioral difficulties have a negative impact on their learning. The school social worker collaborates closely with all school personnel to broaden the school's knowledge and understanding of the child’s home environment, as well as factors affecting the child outside of school. At the same time there is appropriate action to involve parents/guardians in recognizing the nature of school related problems and to conjointly plan for the child’s improvement and success in school. The school social worker has contacts with community practitioners and agencies and others interested in the child and facilitates the making of referrals and the consequent exchange of information and recommendations. |
