Qualifications:

Valid New York State Physical Education teacher certification or valid New York State coaching certification. Knowledge and background in the assigned sport. Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport is desired. Lyons Central School District employees preferred or other qualifications as determined by the Superintendent of Schools. 

Reports to:

Athletic Director and Head Coach 

Job Goal:

To carry out the objectives of the sports programs as outlined by the Athletic Director and Head Coach. To instruct students in skills, and strategies, and provide appropriate physical training necessary to realize individual and team success. To strive for quality and promote pride in all District endeavors. To fulfill the Mission of the District and the school assigned. 

 The person assigned to this position must be capable of working cooperatively with the head coach, other members of the coaching staff and the Athletic Director. The coach should have a degree in Physical Education or hold a New York State Coaching Certificate. Any person currently working towards certification may be considered for the position. The assistant coach must be capable of instructing students in game skills and team strategy pertinent to the activity. This person must be cognizant of all regulations of the League, Section and State Athletic Association. The assistant coach must hold a current Coaches First Aid and CPR Certificate. The assistant coach should have a background in the activity either as a player or as a coach. 

Responsibilities:

Pre-Season 

  1. Works cooperatively with the head coach and assists them in conducting the pre-season meetings with candidates. 
  2. Helps get equipment and supplies out of storage and cross-invited said items. 
  3. Attends pre-season coaches’ meetings as established by the head coach. 
  4. Attends School, League and/or Sectional pre-season meetings. 
  5. Attends officials' rules interpretation meetings. 

 In-Season 

  1. Assumes the duties of coaching as assigned by the head coach. This will include early season drills and practices. (Specific dates will be determined by the Section Athletic Council on a yearly basis.) 
  2. Assists head coach in issuing supplies and equipment to candidates. 
  3. Assumes supervision assignments as determined by the head coach. 
  4. Assumes responsibility for scouting opponents on the dates established by the head varsity coach. 
  5. Attends all necessary coaches meetings established by the head or varsity head coach. 

Post-Season 

  1. Assists head coach in collecting uniforms and supplies that have been issued to the player. 
  2. Assists head coach in getting equipment packed and stored for the year. 

 Other: Performs related duties as required or assigned. 

Evaluation:

The performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Athletic Director with input from the head coach. 

Terms of Employment:

Appointments are for the term of the sport's season, according to the terms and conditions of the negotiated agreement with the Teachers' Association.
